Paul, The new Staffordshire Compact is in process (with Codes of Practice) - due to be launched in June. Subject to approval of the N-u-L LSP Board, we've agreed to run with that, with N-u-L branding, very much as you say. I understand that, of t...

NEW POLL- for all Friends to vote, both old and new
In 2003, when Compact Voice started the local network, this was open only to people from the sector (who felt they needed it to be that way). When people from public bodies wanted to join we offered them the chance to become "Friends." Now, things may have changed. Local Compacts have been in place for some years in most areas, improving relationships, building trust and allowing partners to share the same wavelength. Continuing with separate sites for the sector and public bodies prevents discussion between them across England. Combining the sites could better reflect the Compact's spirit and improve implementation knowledge - but what do you think?

Refreshed national Compact launch expected in Compact Week

A revised Compact should be out by November 2009. The move follows last year’s big debate on the Compact’s future. The Compact Voice Chair and the Sector Minister have now decided the basis for refreshing the existing documentation. The refreshed Compact will –

● set out what a Compact way for working means and help public bodies and the sector to make this a reality

● take the best from the original one and the 5 codes, retaining all the key points which have contributed to its success

● cover Local Compacts and key policy process links such as local performance framework, LSP, LAA and CAA

● draw on the consultation in July-September (schedule has slipped a bit)

This guide should help commisioners understand and follow basic Compact principles. So you may want to let them have a copy and discuss it with them. Maybe the most important thing to do on commissioning is designing the process by working together with the sector right from the start
